Hello! Could you tell me what 's difference between "if" and "in the event that"?

and by the way,i am a freshman in this forum,so i wanna know how to search the relevant questions asked before so that i can learn about the answers without asking the same questions that someone may have asked before. :)

NOT A TEACHER.

There's no difference in meaning. "In the event" is more formal than "if." It's also wordier, and its use is for that reason frowned upon by certain people.
