The former is implied, not the latter.
I think you may be thinking of "we are like each other." That talks about similarity, not affection.

"We like each other" simply means "I like you and you like me". Do you understand what the verb "to like" means in, for example, "I like chocolate"?

You could also use we are alike for this meaning.
