"Socialism is thrown in at the end, probably as an afterthought, and is defined as "mutual service"! Not a word about the working class taking over the ownership of the factories, land and wealth of the country."

Does it mean that socialism was rid of?

It remained being a socialist country? I would have liked to have further context as well. We were given just sentences for translation.

Without further context, it could mean many things. :-D
Doesn't have to be about a country.
