[Grammar] when I look in your eyes and I look into her eyes.

I am confused between the following two sentences:
1. I look into her eyes.
2. When I look in your eyes.

I would like to know the reason why different prepositions ( In and into ) are used in the same type of sentences. Can it not be: I look in her eyes and when I look into your eyes.

The second is not a complete sentence. However, it is possible to use "in" in the first and "into" in the second. In this context, they are interchangeable. Sometimes, more than one preposition is possible.

into gives an added sense of looking deeply.
