John and Sarah went hiking in the forest, and a bee stung John. At first, he didn't notice anything, but the next day his hand swole up where the bee had stung him. He had to go to the hospital. After he returned home, Sarah called him and they had the following conversation:

Sarah: "How's your hand?"
John: "It swole up this morning where the bee stung me and was hurting like hell. I had to go to the hospital. The doctor treated the wound and put a bandage on it. It's much better now."

Are the bolded tenses in what I've written above used correctly? I specifically used the past perfect "had stung" in the description because it's a narrative, and the simple past "stung" in the dialog because the sequence of events is clear to both Sarah and John, and the tone is less formal.

Yes, they're both correct.
In case you're interested, "swole" is the past tense of "swell" only in American English. British English would use "swelled".
