[Grammar] Which brand it is?

I bought a pair of shoes. My friend asked me "Which brand it is?" . I find it a vague statement. I think it should be "Which brand it is of?"
I am confused. Need help with this.

It should be "What brand are they?"

I'd say 'What make are they?'
