Can one use:
1) I didn't talk to a woman. I talked to a man, who committed two bank robberies.
instead of:
2) I didn't talk to a woman. I talked to a man, who had committed two bank robberies.

Can one use:
3) I didn't talk to the child. I talked to the man, who committed a few major crimes.
instead of:
4) I didn't talk to the child. I talked to the man, who had committed a few major crimes.
I am not sure that in '1' and '3', the past tense could be used instead of the past perfect. I think in both sentences the committing of those acts could have happened after I talked to him. But could they have happened before, as is the case in '2' and '4'?
The sentences are all mine. I don't think there's really anything special about them though.
