Hello everybody,

I used to come across the expression "within someone's power/within the power of smb" as in:
To secure successful language learning is only within the power of a teacher.
But when I looked the expression up in some dictionaries - found nothing.
Do they say so nowadays?

Thank you in advance!

Victoria

Yes, you quite often hear the expression 'within someone's power'. It means that something is within the control of that person so they are able to achieve it through their own efforts - nobody else is stopping them.

Dictionaries generally don't define phrases. Most English phrases will not be found in dictionaries.

What dictionaries have you consulted?

I usually turn to Cambridge Dictionary Online
I've looked it up once again and found the expression, I should have been more attentive....
