Would rather's verb

I have been in discussion with my friend on the following sentences:
1/I will repair your computer tomorrow.
2/I would rather you did it today.

The controversial point is in the second sentence at the verb "did"
In my option the correct verb is "do" but my friend has insisted on me the correct is "did".

My question is which one is correct "do" or "did"?

Your friend is right, diplomacy.
The structure is: would rather + subject + past tense.
As far as I know, a present tense or present subjunctive is also possible, but unusual.

PS. I think "I'd rather" is better than the full form.

- I can fix your computer tomorrow.
- Oh, that's disappointing. I'd rather you did it today.

- Hi, my computer is broken. Can I bring it to you tomorrow for you to fix?
- You can, but I'd rather do it today.

Then, when the subject is I (or we), is it correct to infer that the simple present is the right option?
