"Fortunately, we recorded some of the shows, with Martin Birch there to ensure they were done professionally. I’m so glad we did. Of all the incredible shows we did in Rainbow, those are the ones I would want preserved, the ones that recall that band at its best, when it really was still a band".
"Rainbow In The Dark", Ronnie James Dio.
Does "would want" mean the author wants at the time of writing or he wanted then-when they were doing the shows?

At the time of speaking. Equally, at any future time.

Thanks. It is a contracted casuative-the full version being the ones i would want to have preserved , similar to the " cars I would want to have washed"?

Active: I would want those ones [to be] preserved
Passive: those are the ones [that] I would want [to be] preserved
