Hello everyone,

From the book Friends forever:

Kauffman and Crane’s producing partner, Kevin S. Bright, didn’t care that the name Friends sounded generic, since the show was scheduled to air during prime-time TV’s most coveted half hour: 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays, bookended by Mad About You and Seinfeld. “If you put us on Thursday nights,” Bright said, “you can call us Kevorkian for all I care.”

Does the highlighted part imply as follows: Because you put us (our show) on Thursday nights, the name of the show is unimportant to me - you can even change it to Kevorkia, I don't care?

And is Kevorkian a reference to Jack Kevorkian?

He was convicted of murder in 1999 and was often portrayed in the media with the name of "Dr. Death".

Thank you.

Your understanding is good, but it wasn't just Thursday night — it was the single most valuable slot of the most valuable night.

Kevorkian was a very unsavory name at the time because of the deathly antics of Dr. Kevorkian.

He meant it was a great time slot and that the name didn't matter much. (Of course, it did. The "Kevorkian" comment was facetious.)

Thank you.

You're welcome (I guess).

The Kevorkian reference was brainless, even by the ultra-low standards of American sitcoms. If you keep watching that stuff it will rot your brain.
