There was a tradition in some areas in ancient China in which a man took a woman by force for marriage. If there were more women than men, then the hunter and the hunted changed their place. Now a handsome young man was kidnapped by a young woman for marriage. The young man told the woman:"If you marry me this way, you can only get my person, but you can't win my heart." The woman replied:"I only want your person. I don't want to win your heart." To the woman, what was more important was using the man to seed her to have her own offsprings.

I don't think they are odd but I agree that emsr2d2's suggestion is more consistent with the second part.
