"You get to go to the caves."

What is the function of "get to" in this sentence?

The sentence means You have the opportunity to go to the caves.

The words "get to" function as a verb (a phrasal verb).

get is the verb (not a phrasal verb) and to is part of the following to-infinitive to go.

The sentence means You have the opportunity to go to the caves.

That's almost certainly true but it would be nice to have a bit of context to make sure.

Here's the context.

G: "I've got it. Mm-hmm. I've got it. I know exactly what to write, but first-- we have to get the scroll."

Ares: "And just what-- will you write?"

G: "Well, Ares-- that's my business. Now, Aphrodite, Minya-- I want you to go to town. I want you to find out where the peddlar went. Ares and I are going to go where it's raining dinars, and look for him there."

J: "What about me?"

G: "Well, Joxer-- "

J: "Oh."

G: "You get to go to the caves-- "

J: "Say, Gab-- "

G: "-- and you get to wait."

It looks like Joxer isn't much use, so he is not being entrusted with anything- he has to go and wait in the caves while the others search.

In that context, it does mean "We're going to let you/give you the opportunity to go to the cave [and wait]".
