It is easy to confuse what is meant by 'rules'. There are grammatical rules, and then there are rules of style. Only the latter have changed, in my opinion. I interpret Sahil Dankhar's questions concerning what is 'correct' as essentially meaning 'correct to a certain style', i.e. to that which may have been heard in colonial India many decades ago.
