So now you can get pregnant falling on a garden path? I thought it was public toilet seats that were the danger.

So don't mow your neighbour's lawn. It might lead to consequences.

In the Song of Songs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_of_Songs) the woman and the sex of the woman are compared with a garden.

{4.8-5.1a} "(...) A garden locked is my sister, my bride; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed. Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; henna with spikenard, spikenard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon with all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes with all the chief spices. You are a fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon." Awake, O north wind, and come, you south. Blow upon my garden that its fragrant spices may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat its choice fruits. "I am come into my garden, my sister, my bride. I have gathered my myrrh with my spice. I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey. I have drunk my wine with my milk."

In the French literature this metaphor is often used.

From this viewpoint, I let you infer the meaning of the expression "tend the garden".
