"Turtle Pussy"

Hello,

I have a doubt about the phrase "snapping turtle pussy." I know what "snapping pussy" means, but I don't understand the relationship between "pussy" and "turtle". What is the connection? Why is it that this particular animal is being reffered to?

The phrase has been taken from this stanza by the poet Harryette Mullen:

"country clothes hung on her all and sundry
bolt of blue have mercy ink perfume
that snapping turtle pussy
won’t let go until thunder comes"

I don't know what snapping pussy means, but snapping-turtle pussy means a vagina that bites; this is a sexual poem, and thunder means orgasm.

Right. It's a euphemsim for vagina, used in the South, below Mason-Dixon and beyond. See here and here.

LOL- I wouldn't call it a euphemism, as the metaphor is so much more evocative than the original.

Another way to look at the "snapping turtle pussy" is as a pussy into which one would not want to put his penis. A pussy with teeth as it were. Meaning a woman (usually with previous bad relationships with men) whose pussy bites you, i.e., a woman to be avoided because she hurts men.

"Stay away from that woman. As beautiful as she is, her pussy has teeth."
