earn a rainbow

Dear all,

Please help me on this idiom:

But these boys have something really promising. I saw the proposal the second time. I can tell you, any investor who invests in this will earn a rainbow."

Is it the same with "getting big profit" or "making out big money"?

I haven't met this expression. Perhaps it's associated with the idea of leprechauns (Rainbow - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) hiding their pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. I can imagine someone trying to outdo such a claim by adding the rainbow along with the pot of gold.

'Making a mint' is a common expression (in Br Eng) for earning a lot.

well, I got it from an Indian novel :) But personally I think it meant that way too. Thanks a lot! :D

There are some examples on the web of people using it to mean making a lot of money, but I had not heard this before.

Kind of like, you did one thing right, so you get credit or A credit for it. It's like saying someone did a good job on something, or did such a satisfactory job that they "earned a rainbow".

I feel that this is right, except I have only heard it apply to the phrase "earn a star" or "earn a gold star".
