| Basically, you start by learning "received English" and as you become fluent you can use more idiomatic English and then slang terms. There is a difference between using idiomatic phrases and slang. |

| When learning English, I'd advise you to learn standard, academic English first. Trying to learn idioms, slang, and the correct usage of the two is like trying to ride a unicycle without knowing how to ride a bicycle. While learning standard English, you'll slowly be able to catch on to more slang and colloquial English. |
