But is the word-brainiac itself a bit of negative? If without any further context, can I judge the below sentence bears a reference to bad connation as you indicated of above?

If I told Dr. King, "you are a brainiac", would he might feel offensive?

"Brainiac" was a character in the Superman comics, he was an evil genius, (brainiac/maniac) the origin of the word is from there.

If I told Dr. King, "you are a brainiac", would he might feel offensive?[/quote] You can say, "Would he feel offended?" or "Might he feel offended?" but not "would he might..?"
