Hello,
As I know, the indefinite article is used in the meaning of 'another': He ran the first circle, and then a second and a/the third one. Should we use a or the with the last item (in this case, circle) enumerated? Will the use of article here change the meaning of the sentence (or at least the shade of meaning)? Then, which variant is correct:
a) After being called for a second time, he looked at me.
b) After being called for the second time, he looked at me.
Can they both be used with a bit different meaning (with emphasis on 'one more time' in (a) and on the second, not third time in (b)?
And could you please tell me if the perfect gerund will suit here better? Will there be any difference?
c) After being called for a/the second time, he looked at me.
d) After having been called for a/the second time, he looked at me.
