“Southeast America” or "Southeastern America", which is correct?

Hi, native speaker friends:

“Southeast America” or "Southeastern America", which is correct? Are they both acceptable? Which one sounds more natural? What's the difference?

Either would be correct but it is natural in this case to say "Southeast America".
