If I have a special tensile strength test that is used repeatedly on a few samples, do I say
"The tensile strengths of the samples were measured using a tensile strength test."
or
"The tensile strengths of the samples were measured using tensile strength tests."
This has been bugging me for a very long time. Does "test" refer to a single instance, or the same test method in which case it can be done repeatedly and still be referred to as singular?
Also, should I even say "The tensile strengths of the samples were measured" as I did above, or "The tensile strength of the samples was measured", since tensile strength can be considered a variable just like x in mathematics and probably treated as singular?
Thank you

Welcome to the forum, rrkkass.

Consider this alternative:

'The tensile strength of each sample was measured with a tensile strength test'.
