Dear all,

I know the meaning of 'in the morning', but what to use if I want to express 'on the winter mornings' or 'in the winter mornings' ? Is there a rule that when there is any word modifying morning in the phrase 'in the morning', it will become: on the xyz morning? Here 'in' is changed into 'on'. Thank you very much!

Hi Tom W,
The correct way to express this idea is "on winter mornings":
"On winter mornings I sleep in later and don't get up until 10 or 11."

I don't think that the reason you change "in" to "on" is because there's a word modifying it. I can say:
"In the early morning I woke up and made coffee."

The reason it changes to "on" is because we're talking about more than one morning. This is true for other situations where we're talking about more than one morning:
"On Monday mornings I take the bus to work."
"On weekday mornings the alarm clock wakes me up."

Thank you very much for your professional and detailed explanations!:-D
Yes, we are talking about more than one morning.

Just one last question, if I say: on Sunday morning, I got up late and missed the class.
Here 'on' is used, is it because of 'Sunday' here, since we have to say 'on Sunday'?

Sorry, I'm adding in another sentence which I'm not sure of: The love story started in (or 'on' ?) a winter morning...

Many thanks again!

Yes, I think that's correct.

This should be "on".

In this instance, you could also say ............ started one winter morning.
This should be "on".

I am not a teacher.
