 That first one was supposed to be: "It's hot today."

I think It's means it is a thing
and Its means it belongs to a thing
so It's is correct

Hello all, I'm trying to improve my english, It's the first time to me to be in a Forum, The forums new world for me. I searched for a proper forum to begin with, I dont know if there is a welcom forum or not, I think "Begginer" the proper one.:)

Its is a possesive adjective "Its people are great".
It's is an abreviation of the verb "be" "It is a beautiful town".

"It's" is a shortcut of "It is", but "Its" is a possessive pronoun.
Examples:
"It's": It is a lovely town = It's a lovely town
"Its": I have a mobile and its colour is red.

I was thinking about that so i think it should be it's am i right??

I think:

'Its' is a determiner. It means belonging to or connected with a thing, an animal or a baby

For example,
Turn the box on its side.
The dog had hurt its paw.
The baby threw its food on the floor.

'It's' is a short form. It may either be it is or it has.

This is not strictly a question for Poll as there should be no opinion involved. They are two distinct terms having very different meanings. ' It's ' is the abbreviated form of ' It is ' so is correct in the sentence you presented ' It's a lovely town ' = ' It is a lovely town ' The apostrophe takes the place of the missing letter(s) just as it does in Can't = Cannot Shouldn't = Should not.

' Its ' without the apostrophe (pronounced apostroffee) is used to show the possessive - that is - belonging to it. The dog chased its tail. The trouble is that we usually use the apostrophe to denote the possessive - as in ' Jane's bag ' - the bag belonging to Jane - so there is an inclination to think of ' It's ' as denoting the possessive. This then leads to confusion about what do do with Its
How about something to trigger the memory -
Remember - The possessive it has lost its apostrophe

It's been a long time I didn't write emails ;)

Correct to: It's been a long time SINCE I HAVEN'T written any emails.

When you say, It's been a long time since I have written any e-mails." It's here means "It has."

It's
And thanks a lot :)
