Floods in northeast China kill at least 29 - CNN.com

Fourth paragraph:

On Wednesday, the rising water hit a chemical plant in Jilin and 7,000 containers washed into the Songhua River -- 3,000 of which were filled with explosive chemicals, Xinhua said.

-----------------------------------------

Should the passive voice 'were washed into' be adopted here instead of the active voice? Thank you.

I think the problem is the use of the verb "wash".
Thank you !

There's nothing wrong with the use of the verb "wash" here. When something is moved from one place to another by the power of water, it is "washed away" or "washed into" etc.

I mean can we use both ways of active form and passive form with the verb "wash" ?
In active form, we have "...washed into...".
In passive form, we have "...were washed into...".
Can they be the same?
Thank you very much !
