Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

The car was speeding at breakneck pace over a snowy white road.

And then, as he ha remounted, the horse had suddenly reared up on its hind legs and shot sway at breakneck speed.

at breakneck pace = at breakneck speed

breakneck = dangerously fast

Thanks for your efforts.

Regards,

V

The clue is in the words......... one slip and, because you're going too quickly to be able to compensate, you'll fall or crash and break your neck!
