Hong Kong stars work hard, and the pace is hot. Some make ten movies a year, others record four CDs as well as keeping to a tight schedule of concerts.

What does "hot" in this context mean? I can't find a meaning in the dictionary that matches the context.

"Feverish" would also work there.

"The pace is hot" = "the pace is rapid", correct?

I would say more than "rapid".
