The squeaky wheel gets the grease, but

Perhaps you're thinking of "Silence is golden, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease"....?

Has anyone heard the 2nd half. I can't seem to remember.

I have heard:

It is true that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, but it also

gets replaced.

In other words, if you are an employee who is always complaining, you

will get attention, but you may also be looking for another job.

If there is a "but," maybe this is it:

The squeaky wheel gets the grease but the silent sow always gets the swill.

As far as wise proverbs go, these would be contradictory.
