Can you think frantically? If yes, where does frantically go?

He was frantically thinking how to....
He was thinking frantically how to...

It would work better for me if you would come up with something like:
.
He was frantically trying to come up with a solution to the problem.
.
The phrase "thinking frantically" doesn't work for me, but maybe you could make it do so if you could flesh that sentence out a bit.

How about, 'He was frantically trying to escape from that hell'? To cut the long story short, the situation is connected with fear and escape.

That is good! That gives me a good idea of what was going on. The phrase "He was frantically trying to" gives the reader the idea of a great effort at something.
