For example, if I am reading a book and I hear a police siren outside my window, the sound would disturb me/my concentration; it would make it hard for me to concentrate because I don't like the sound a siren makes. Now, if, while reading my book, I hear a sound that I like, say, a popular song coming from the apartment above me, and I start humming along with the song, the song would distract me from reading my book; however, if I didn't like the song, then the sound would disturb my reading.

Did you check both words in your dictionary?
You should do that and then raise questions about their use by suggesting sentences with them therein.
