(source: Iceberg Slim: Pimp, The story of my life)

section of the novel that contains the expression:

"She said: Daddy, this is light green pot from chili gut country. It will make us mellow. Why don't you take your clothes off?"

Background:

Slim is at a girl's flat she wants to be Slim's whore and tries to win his trust. She offers a joint to Slim and describes the weed in it as "light green pot from chili gut country"

But what does that exactly mean?

I think you understand "light green pot". It means pale green marijuana.

"Chili gut country" is a tough one. Chili is short for "chile con carne", a popular American dish based on Mexican flavours. Although the Spanish name literally means peppers with meat, the dish is usually prepared with a lot of beans and not very much meat.

So my speculation is that chili gut country means impoverished rural areas where many people are too poor to afford meat and must rely on beans for their protein. I think the implication is that exceptionally good weed can be grown in such areas because they are remote and thinly policed.

Alimentary, my dear Watson.

Must have been a two pipe problem...

I think it was sheer luck that you hit upon that. It's time that you and I returned to our respective homes.
