What's difference between these sentences?

1. You can see the cinema programmes on the notice opposite.
2. You can see the cinema programmes on the opposite notice.

What do you mean by "notice"? Are you talking about a pamphlet or a flyer of some sort?

I think it must be poster. This example came from Micheal Swan grammar's books. No mention about the basic meaning of this word is there.

Swan tells you clearly: We put opposite after (my emphasis - 5jj) the noun when it means 'facing the speaker or listener' or 'facing a person or place that has already been mentioned'.

My problem is that can we use the second sentence as well? Does it make any sense or we should use the first only according to the feature of OPPOSITE?
