Hello,
Conflict resolution means to end a conflict. This vastly popular term includes a way of resolving a conflict in which one party prevails over the other party and imposes its will. However, this term is mostly used to mean to develop and implement peaceful strategies in order to resolve conflicts.
Under Chapter VI of the Charter of the United Nations, procedures to follow in conflict resolution are divided into two, legal methods and political measures. Legal methods are, by and large, excluded in the field of diplomacy. The latter, on the other hand, involves traditional political methods, some of which are stated in Article 33 of the Charter of the United Nations. These are namely negotiation, mediation, goodwill missions, research commissions, conciliation commissions.
If there exists a conflict of interest between two or more countries and no side is willing to step back, an international crisis arises. When it is clear that there will be no settlement, diplomatic action is taken to avoid the use of force. This is called “crisis management”. In such a case, the role of diplomacy is to postpone the problem until suitable conditions are created for a settlement.
