Hi.

Are my two sentences idiomatic? Will native speakers use them?

1) Does he venture to object?
2) The well-built ship stemmed on against a strong current.

I think 1) is okay but I'm not sure about the second one.

Stemmed in the second sentence means made headway against. Thus on against is not required.

Hi.

Are my two sentences idiomatic? Will native speakers use them?

1) Does he
plan/dare/want to object?

Venture isn't natural.

2) The well-built ship ste
amed on against a strong current.

I think 1) is okay but I'm not sure about the second one.

Stemmed didn't make sense. Steamed does.

There you go!
