I want you to rewrite this conversation skeleton into a more formal one with complete sentences.

Q) I don't understand why 'a' comes with 'one.'
What I know about the usage of one is: I like blue shirt and red one. (not a red one)

This is my first post here in UE.
Thank you^^

Welcome to the board, Moon.

The correct usage is 'I like a blue shirt and a red one.' One is used to avoid repeating shirt.

Welcome, moon. :hi:

In answer to your question, the noun 'one' in that context refers to 1 of 2 types of conversation skeletons:

  • a more formal skeleton/one, not a less formal skeleton/one

The adjective 'more formal' changes the meaning of 'one' from quantity (1 conversational skeleton) to type (more formal; less formal).

Here's another example:

[1] I want a pen. quantity: 1
[2] I want one. quantity: 1
[3] I want a blue pen. type: blue
[4] I want a blue one. type: blue
[5] I want a one. :cross: type: needs an adjective to specify the type.
