Hi Guys,

So, I was helping out my friend by correcting a paper of his for college when I saw this construction "a being a place".
At first I thought it was a plain mistake, that it should be "being in a place", or that "a being" was not supposed to be there at all, but then I googled it and the first result was this article from The Guardian: The internet as a sacred space
The headline says: "Rather than a being a place to preach, the net could be a safe place where we could explore religion, talk about it, experience it"
In the comments section there's no mention whatsoever to this mistake, so I'm guessing it is no mistake at all. Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.

Eduardo

It's an error. The first "a" should not be there. It should simply say "Rather than being a place to preach ...". For info, The Guardian is affectionately known by many people in the UK as "The Grauniad" because of the number of typos it contains.

It's a mistake.

The Guardian newspaper is notorious for typographic errors. That's why it's often referred to as "The Grauniad".

Did I not say that in post #2? ;-)

For some weird reason that post went into moderation. Grumpy would not have been able to see it by the time I approved it.

Thank you, 5jj. I couldn't understand why I hadn't seen emsr2d2's comment.

Nor could I! Presumably it went into moderation because it contained a link and was the OP's first post. Fair enough! I thought my posts had become invisible. ;-)
