Which one is correct? why?

They can ride a bike.

They can ride bikes.

Context, as always, is important.

Q: What do these three children have in common?
A: They can ride a bike.

Q: What can my kids do at after-school club?
A: They can ride bikes.

Both could be correct- what did you intend to mean?
