Hi there,

Thousands of people have been evacuated amid fears pressure building up beneath Merapi's lava dome could lead to one of the most powerful blasts in years.

Do you think a 'full-stop' or a 'period' should be placed between 'fears' and 'pressure'?

Thanks
simon

No. The fears are THAT pressure beneath the dome could lead to a blast.

Same format: He was fired amidst allegations [that] he had bribed regulators.

Does that make sense?

Do you mean 'that' should be there as follows:
...amid fears [that] pressure building up...

Tks
simon

The "that" is optional. Does it help you to understand the sentence if it's there?
