What do you call this kind of toilet? Is there any special name for that?

It would be helpful to know where (in what country) this particular toilet is located. Depending upon the location, this type of facility is often referred to as a "squat toilet."

Thanks.
I've sseen it in Iran and Turkey. I think it's normally found in muslim countries.

If there's another term for this, please let me know.

They have them in Asia, too. I would call it a "squatter."

These toilets are very common in India. India is not a "Muslim country".
I don't think there is a particular term for them in English. (In French they are called "toilettes à la Turque")

Wouldn't defecation be difficult?

How many opportunities do I get to post my all-time favorite sign. (I took this photo in Qatar.)

Yes, and in English literature I have seen them called "Turkish toilets" although I can't summon up a citation just now.

"You get used to it."

Well, now we are getting down to the technicalities. In my opinion (and I am in India a lot) if you get used to it when you are younger, you had better stay used to it, because otherwise when you become older your ability to cope with it declines drastically. I am always amazed to see elderly people like me doing this in the fields or even by the roadside. But I suppose that, like older airline pilots they continue to find it easy because they have consistently maintained their practice.

There is no special name for a toilet with a squatting water closet. You can call it an Asian toilet if you like since only Asian toilets have that though it is gradually being phased out. The sitting, pedestal water closet is imported from the west.

The idea probably came from the latrine in the old days, which was just a pit dug in the ground and people would just squat over the hole to defaecate. Asians, young and old, have no problem with the squatting position. In fact,it is believed that the position helps people to defaecate more easily as the pelvis is in a more open position. The other thing is that a squatting w.c. is easier to maintain and wash.

When I saw (and unfortunately and uncomfortably used) them in Kenya and Sri Lanka, we referred to them as "squat toilets".

Not a teacher.

During construction toilets are distinguished based on type of closets for each flats. Now a days one IWC and EWC common for all houses in India. We called it as an " IWC Toilet".
