A missing "the" before "accompanying" and omission of the phrase "the two"

“Sheikh Muhammad greeted his guest and accompanying delegation and the two reviewed the fraternal relations binding the UAE and Mauritania”.

* I think there is a missing “the” before “accompanying” and there is no need to use the phrase “the two”.

It's okay with or without the. This (omission of the) is not uncommon in news reports.

Wrong. If you leave out "the two", then it would only be Sheikh Muhammad doing the reviewing of relations.
