I qutoed an article from CBS news:
I don't quite understand the below sentence in orange, can anyone help me with this?

"When I presided over the Senate confirmation vote yesterday, while I was sitting there, I drafted a note to my goddaughter. And I told her that I felt such a deep sense of pride and joy and about what this moment means for our nation and for her future. And I will tell you, her braids are just a little longer than yours," Harris said Friday at a White House celebration for Jackson.

thanks a lot

Note my corrections above. I have no idea what the sentence about braids means. Perhaps it's some kind of in-joke.

Black women in American politics like to act like black women's hair is a great source of controversy.

In the midst of runaway inflation and war in Ukraine, the House of Representatives took the time to pass national legislation banning workplace discrimination based on hairstyles.

Having I sent this out in such a hurry that I have made some mistakes. By the way, what do you think about my English? Is it just so-so, or poor or worst terrible?

Your English is entirely understandable. You simply make some grammatical mistakes.
Even though most native speakers know what the acronym for "By the way" means, please avoid using such things on the forum.

It is my great pleasure to have your comments here. Actually, I have not practised my English since my first child born and that's why I even made the simple mistakes in grammer. I would much appreciate if you can recommend some useful grammer books for me to improve my English.

One of the books most often recommended by teachers here is English Grammar In Use by Raymond Murphy.

That quote from Harris about braids does not appear in the source you linked.

I'm guessing it's a reference to the cultural significance braids play to some black people. Apparently her goddaughter has such braids, as does Jackson.
