[Grammar] among them are...?

"Among them are renewable energies using sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat"

The subject in this sentence is 'among them' and I wonder how a preposition(among) can be a subject.


Please help.

I agree, as a standalone sentence it doesn't make much sense.
 
I think it's inverted, and a bit awkward, but correct. All we have to do is invert it back:

"Among them, X, Y, and Z are renewable energy sources using solar, wind, rain, tides and geothermal energy.
