If I am addressing three people, there is no need to mention the fact.

No, as I said "you three" refers to whoever it is you are talking to.

If you are standing in front of three people, you could say "Which of you three stole my car?" or "Shall I take you three to the cinema tonight?" etc.

If there are three people in front of you, and you can't remember which person's pen you borrowed, you would say either "Which of you three lent me a pen?" or "Whose pen did I borrow?" but you can't associate "you three" with the "three pens".

I think I am misunderstood. I am not saying there are three pens.

Does it mean that I am talking to the pens?

What I actually have in my mind is: I borrowed someone's pen but I forgot who that was but I know that I borrowed from those people standing there.So, I go staight and ask them Whose pen among you three did I borrow?


The reason for asking this question repeatedly is that I haven't understood it properly.So, forgive me if I have created any trouble madam.

Whose id card am I supposed to find? I think this is the right one.
