Hi, dear friends.
I don't get the meaning of this sentence. especially the underlined part. Would someone help me to understand it.

Although this is paper engineering, there’s actually a lot of artistic interpretation involved.

If you want more context, here is the full paragraph:

"The pull tab is the same length as the height of the card folded in half. This means that when the pull tab isn’t being pulled, it sits flush with the bottom of the card.Although this is paper engineering, there’s actually a lot of artistic interpretation involved. The hole in the pull tab needs to go slightly higher than the hole in the card."

You need to use some creative thought in following the instructions. If you do things exactly as you are instructed, there will not be a precise fit.

You can see this for yourself. Measure the length of a piece of paper, very accurately, and then fold it in half. Now measure the length from the top of the folded sheet to the fold (using a magnifying glass). The new length will be a fraction of a millimetre less then half the length of the unfolded sheet. The fold itself takes up some of the length. This will be even more obvious if you try it with a thick sheet of cardboard.

Thanks for your helpful reply.
But the problem is that all the sizes given for the projects of the book are precise and in details. It is one of the simplest projects of the book and there is no need to have some creativity to do it. The sizes do the work. But even I accept your idea about the sentence, why the writer has said "a lot of artistic interpretation" (of course you say "some" and it is more reasonable.) It isn't reasonable to use "a lot of artistic interpretation" for doing such a simple project, is it?
