Dear all,

what does it mean by "as a result of it following a course" ?

"HTC has been sucked into this American legal battle as a result of it following a course that most of its Asian peers have not pursued, at least not successfully."

Could anyone explain to me what does the above document mean? Thank you.

...because it followed a course...

A path. A way forward. The decisions made as the company went about its business.

In other words, HTC has been doing something, taking certain actions or making certain decisions (without context, it's impossible to say what) that have resulted in HTC joining the legal battle they mention (unintentionally, it seems, because they've been "sucked into it").
