Have I made any mistakes?

At a press conference announcing the release of his debut album, singer Peter Porter told the journalists that he felt glad and sad at the same time. Glad that he had made his debut after years of hard work and sad because his parents were not alive anymore and were unable to see that he had finally succeeded.

I would use:
- "to announce" instead of "announcing" (because it is Peter, not the conference, doing the announcing)
- "journalists" instead of "the journalists" (because we still haven't specified/mentioned the journalists)
- "made it" instead of "succeeded" (because it sounds more natural).

There is no need to use the word journalists at all. It's a press conference. Reporters are there. (At the press conference he said ....)
