Hi,

There are two words "banquet" and "reception" that can mean a big dinner usually arranged in the evening where many guests gather. I think "reception" is used in a wider sense to speak about some other events organized in order to welcome guests (different welcoming performances, dances, musical recitals, etc.), while "banquet" can only mean "a big meal". Is that right?

Thanks
