[Idiom] be filled with nausea

I was filled with nausea at the sight of the putrid kitchen waste.

Or "I was nauseated....."

I would use "I was nauseated by the sight of ..." or "I was overcome with nausea at the sight of ..."

Mind you, a few weeks ago, one of the other teachers/natives on this forum made a very good point about either the word "nausea" or "nauseated" (I can't remember which word or what the point was - oops!)

I've heard 'nauseous' in speakers of Am Eng. It's understood - perhaps because of American comics (I always imagine Woody Allen's voice when I see the word written down) - but the word's rarely used in colloquial Br Eng.
