1) I didn't repair the computer, because I was told to.

Can #1 be used instead of #2?
I don't think I'd use the first sentence instead of the second one, but I wonder if native speakers would.
To me, #1 sounds as if someone declares that they didn't repair the computer and then adds as an afterthought that the reason they didn't repair it was that they were told to repair it. But I know that native speaker often use the shortest way to express an idea and I think #1 might be used instead of #2.
