Hello!

Can before and beforehand sometimes be synonyms?

Thanks

Not really, I can't think of any situations where they could be. Anyone else?

I think that 'before' can be, and often is, used adverbially exactly as 'beforehand' is.

'Beforehand' cannot be used in place of 'before' as a preposition or conjunction.

Hi,

Maybe it's a bit far-fetched, but how about the thrid conditional:

If I had known before/beforehand that you didn't like horror films, I wouldn't have bought the tickets.

Greetings,
